A recent food truck explosion in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, resulted in twelve people being seriously injured, including two operators of the truck.
Who bears responsibility for the explosion? While it might appear that the owners of the truck are solely responsible, the issue is not that simple. There are multiple parties who could have been negligent, such as the company who manufactured the propane tank and the valves attached to it, any parties who had serviced or refurbished the tank, the owners of the food truck, and even the City of Philadelphia if it turns out that they had allowed for violations of safety codes to go unnoticed. All of these parties may be partially responsible.
It’s not always clear who is legally responsible when a person suffers injuries due to misuse of a product or defects in products. If someone suffers injuries due to events such as the food truck explosion, it’s typically up to the injured victims’ lawyers’ who identify the responsible parties in order to ensure that their client can receive proper compensation for their injuries.
